Event description

Shorts Relief: Flicks for the Fires is a one-day-only short film and web series festival comprising screenings of short films and web series . The event will be hosted by a star-studded line-up of actors & filmmakers from the Victorian screen industry, with all profits directly donated to Wildlife Victoria and the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

Running from 2pm to 8pm on the day, you can come for one hour - or come for all six! Your ticket gives you entry into as little or as much of the day as you want, as gives you access to the full program!

We have four blocks of films (check out our program here) running at approximately an hour each block (which is up to 9 films/series in one block AND you can have your drinks in the cinema too!), plus a panel about the power of film, a fantastic lounge area upstairs from the main foyer - "The Saloon" - where you can take your drinks, hang out, chat with friends and/or network with colleagues, a media wall in the main foyer for all your Instagram update needs (which also has professional photographers to take your photo for posterity as an added bonus), plus our celebrity guests, and of course, our amazing line up of films and series!

This day is meant to be a casual, fun and relaxed event that suits the long weekend vibe and celebrates Victorian independent short form filmmaking – while raising much needed funds for Victoria’s wildlife and communities who have been affected by the fires.

The short films and series to be screened feature a range of Australia's prominent actors including Guy Pearce (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Iron Man 3, Animal Kingdom), Christopher Kirby (The Matrix Trilogy), Ditch Davey (Spartacus), Angus Sampson (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Walking Dead, Fargo), Nadine Garner (The Blake Mysteries), Michala Banas (Upper Middle Bogan, Winners & Losers), Toby Truslove (Koko: A Red Dog Story, Utopia), Virginia Gay (Winners & LosersScott Major (Neighbours) and Genevieve Morris (Ride Like A Girl, Comedy Inc., No Activity) among others.

The event will also showcase on-screen performances from stars who have built their following through Facebook, YouTube and other platforms, with millions of views from around the world such as Kate McCartney & Kate McLennan (Get Krackin’), Aunty Donna, Goodall & Gallagher, Camarella Comedy and Stepmates.

Confirmed Special Guest Presenters at the event include Michala Banas, Alan Fletcher, Toby Truslove, Christopher Kirby, Ditch Davey, among others - click here to see the full line up.

As March 8 is also International Womens’ Day, our program has also been curated to include a large selection of films and series featuring female directors, producers, writers, actors and other creatives, to highlight the impressive contribution that women make to our creative screen industry.

Shorts Relief is being produced by Incognita Enterprises in conjunction with The Lost Artist and Melbourne WebFest. Event partners include Ozflix, Auspicious Arts Projects, Zilla & Brook, Balloon Tree Productions, Humanitix who are donating their booking fees for ticket sales to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fund, the Capitol Theatre who are generously waiving the venue hire fee for the day and The Mahony Group who are donating a percentage of bar profits toward the total amount raised.

So come join us on Sunday, March 8 as we gather to celebrate the creativity of Victoria’s independent film community in a relaxed, fun environment at one of the most stunning venues available in Melbourne - all while raising as much money as we possibly can for those on the bushfire front lines who now face the long road to recovery.
