Hours

Duration

60 minutes

Location

Bunjil Place Plaza

Soothe your ears and soul in the bright, warm morning delight and journey through tranquil and uplifting Indian music while enjoying an authentic cup of chai.

Prepare to energise your day. These Dawn Ragas will take place outdoors in the Plaza and are designed to elevate your mental state with blissful Indian classical music from local and international musicians.

A raga is the melodic framework for improvisation and composition. It is based on a scale with a given set of notes, a typical order in which they appear in melodies, and characteristic musical motifs. By using only these notes, emphasizing certain degrees of the scale, and by going from note to note in ways characteristic to the raga, the performer sets out to create a mood or atmosphere that is unique to the raga in question. There are several hundred ragas in present use, and thousands are possible in theory.

Complimentary Chai tea will be available as well as yoga mats for public use. In the event of wet weather, the performance will still take place but will be moved into the foyer.

We have partnered with Arts Centre Melbourne and Multicultural Arts Victoria to co-present a Dawn Raga Series in multiple venues across February and March.
