Black Money – Pass The Rainbow

John McAll

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Black Money

Details

An immersion into wildness and freedom.

Known for his great versatility, groove based jazz and contemporary harmonic edge, Black Money is an original project of pianist and composer John McAll.

About the concert

His performance in Primrose Potter Salon celebrates the release of Black Money’s fourth album, Pass The Rainbow, a name which describes the inheritance of musical colour and depth of field via McAll’s mentor Tony Gould.

Drawing from a broad palette of musical styles, Black Money harkens back to the rhythmic roots of jazz. Influenced by early stomp and boogie, their performances inspire immersion into an earlier wildness and freedom now lost in many sub genres of modern jazz.

Imbued with dark humour and offset with buoyancy and brightness, Black Money delivers fun grooves with a palpable edge.

Praise for Black Money

‘I have always associated John McAll with widescreen cinematic performances, the big stage and large productions, but his work with Black Money is edgy and often darkly humorous.’ Roger Mitchell (Ausjazz)
