THE OLD BAR GALLERY & BODRIGGY PRESENT: “AAAAH” ADRIANA & JULIA EXHIBITION w/ TOO FAR GONE + CAP GUN KILLS

  • The Old Bar 74-76 Johnston Street Fitzroy, VIC, 3065 Australia (map)

“AAAAH!” is a collective exhibition presented by melbourne artists Julia Pratt & Adriana
Artmeier.
The work explores struggles with mental health from depression & anxiety to heightened
emotions like panic, excitement, awe or shock.
Planning for this exhibition started during the last long Lockdown here in Melbourne which
emphasised how drastically mental health can change, decline and mental illness can
develop. Lastly, it inspired Adriana & Julia to work through these issues with a series of
paintings.
Adriana Artmeier
Adriana, originally from Germany, moved to Melbourne in 2016 where, shortly after, she
discovered her love for scuba diving and sharks which are featured in her paintings
alongside other ocean creatures she encountered during her underwater adventures.
She incorporates sharks as a representation of hope and creativity in her work and is
incredibly passionate about removing the negative stigma around these creatures that were
formed by the media.
Primarily working with acrylics, Adriana Artmeier developed an art style throughout the years
which can be best described as dark, sometimes magical realism with a surrealistic twist to
it.

Julia Pratt
Julia graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of arts (Visual Communication and
Design) and now works as an illustrator.
Primarily working in digital art, she uses bold colour and linework. The principal themes in
her work are identity through self expression, distortion of perspective and the human form.
Julia utilises acrylic and gouache to achieve her surrealistic, vibrant aesthetic in this
exhibition.
