FEMINISTA VINYL FUNDRAISER: FACE FACE + SHOOT THE GENIE + HANNAH BLACKBURN

  • The Old Bar 74-76 Johnston Street Fitzroy, VIC, 3065 Australia (map)

Feminista Vinyl is a not-for-profit record store and community space that
stocks exclusively female, trans and enby led bands and artists!
Despite the worst timing by opening up seconds before COVID hit, we’re
clawing our way back on behalf of this much needed space.
Our Feminista Vinyl Fundraiser at the Old Bar, May 20th will see Shoot the
Genie’s 20 year reunion gig, Melbourne legends FACE FACE as well as very
special guest Hannah Blackburn!
There’ll be raffles, merch and vinyl for sale, with all profits going straight back
to Feminista Vinyl so we can keep supporting and stocking the bands we all
love!

Canberra-born, Hannah Blackburn recalls early life with haunting mantras “you will
never sing”, and post 11 years of competitive dancing, she didn’t realise would
eventuate with perfectionism in daily routines, and every other aspect of life.
Hannah is narrating her journey as a woman, using music as a tool. Expect this
personal voyage to be likened to Margaret Glaspy, Waxahatchee, and local lion-
hearts Quivers, and Angie McMahon, especially in her upcoming debut album,
release date TBA.

Shoot the Genie are a Melbourne 4 piece forming in the late 90’s and playing until the early 2-thou’s.
They are reuniting ESPECIALLY as part of Feminista Vinyl’s fundraiser gigs after disbanding almost 20 years ago! An indie pop rock outfit heavily inspired by 90’s icons such as The Clouds, The Breeders and Scheer, Shoot the Genie are stuck in the 90’s and have not lost their touch despite being bigger, greyer and have most importantly have not lost the art of embracing their dorky side. Re-live some nostalgia and see STG for the last time!

Face Face are three Melbourne mates serving up indie-rock for nostalgic 90s kids.
For a few years, they've been winning over punters with their intricate bass lines,
fuzzed-up guitar tones, candid lyrics and one of the fastest drummers in Melbourne.
Since the release of their debut self-titled album, they've supported the likes of
Slowly Slowly, Clowns, The Hard Aches, Jade Imagine, Cry Club, Moaning Lisa,
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Painters & Dockers.
Their last EP Cartoon Villain is a celebration of their live sound, providing a
thoughtful backdrop to some pretty angsty lyrical content.
Frontwoman Lauren Perkins anchors these sonics in emotional heft, venting a
muddled mass of anxiety, sharp observation and vulnerability.- Rabbit Radio
A dynamic frenzy... a ferocious burst of indie punk rock... delivering the sort of
energy that most bands would aspire to. - Tone Deaf.
Face Face's new single The Karen Song is out on March 29th.
